Oku x Rootstock: User’s Guide to Getting Started with Uniswap on Rootstock

Published on: 12 December, 2023

Uniswap v3 was deployed on Rootstock by GFX Labs, the team behind trading terminal Oku.

This article is part of Rootstock’s series “Building DeFi on Bitcoin” that explores different solutions and integrations on the Rootstock blockchain that enable scaling Bitcoin, bringing DeFi capabilities to the world’s first blockchain.

Oku Trade, the DeFi trading platform built on top of Uniswap v3, has recently integrated on the Rootstock chain, and is now set up to index all pools, swaps, tokens, and positions automatically on Rootstock.
This integration provides users with a seamless, comprehensive trading experience directly from the available dashboard.
In this step-by-step guide, you can dive into the details of how to connect your wallet, deploy liquidity, make use of insights and dashboards, and start trading.

Getting started

1. Connect your wallet

Users can get started by heading over to Oku Trade and connecting their wallet. Landing on the trade page, traders can select a pool and place a market or limit order within seconds. If not set on a pool, they can head to the swap page for a more straightforward interface. Select the desired buy/sell assets and execute a trade.

2. Deploy liquidity

To deploy a liquidity position, users can navigate to the position maker page, where they’ll see LP customization options and a chart displaying the liquidity depth for your selected pool. Selecting the concentrated liquidity range can be done either on the chart, with the percentage presets, or by entering it manually. Finally, users can submit your amount and deploy. Claiming fees and closing positions can be done from the same page.

3. Get insights & start trading

To explore rootstock tokens, pools and positions, analysts can click the analytics tab at the top of Oku or follow this link. On Oku Analytics, they’ll find an overview of the protocol and each Uniswap v3 pool. As new pools are added, they’re automatically indexed and added to the platform. Exploring specific tokens and positions is intuitive and can offer extra insight before making a trade.

Why Oku chose to build its dApp on Rootstock

Oku team is one of the projects that demonstrated alignment with the Everyday DeFi vision of the Rootstock Grants Program, and with that, received a slice of the $2.5M funding allocated to building Everyday DeFi on Bitcoin.

Integrating Rootstock was a strategic and necessary step in Oku’s quest to bring comprehensive DeFi trades under one roof. Rootstock uniquely blends the Bitcoin network’s robust security with EVM compatibility’s flexibility and adaptability. This integration enables Oku to offer:

  • Bitcoin’s Unparalleled Security: Leveraging the security of Bitcoin, Rootstock ensures one of the safest trading environments for Oku users.
  • EVM Compatibility: The seamless integration of Ethereum-based smart contracts with Bitcoin’s network expands trading capabilities.
  • Interoperability: Rootstock’s architecture facilitates easy interaction with other chains, aligning with Oku’s multi-chain approach.
  • Community and Developer Support: Rootstock’s robust community and developer resources, evident in its comprehensive developer portal, have been invaluable in this integration process.

“We’re thrilled to help bring Uniswap v3 to Rootstock, expanding the DeFi ecosystem with Oku Trade. Rootstock users can expect a seamless swap and liquidity-providing experience across multiple pools and tokens.”

About Rootstock

Rootstock is the world’s most secure smart contract platform that is cryptographically connected to the Bitcoin blockchain. Known as a Bitcoin sidechain, Rootstock uses a trustless and censorship resistant two-way peg to allow users to send Bitcoin directly to the Rootstock chain which is then converted into smart Bitcoins (RBTC) on the Rootstock blockchain. These RBTC can be used to deploy or to interact with smart contracts and dApps on the Rootstock blockchain. BTC can be easily moved back to the Bitcoin mainchain at any point using the trustless bridge or through a variety of protocols such as Sovryn FastBTC.
