Get RBTC: Guide to Exchanges (DEXs & CEXs)

Published on: 17 September, 2024

This article is part of the “Journey in Rootstock” series, guiding users to access the ecosystem. From compatible wallets and assets to exchanges and bridges, this series aims to simplify Rootstockers’ experience in the Bitcoin-powered DeFi world.

If you’re looking to get RBTC and start exploring the Rootstock ecosystem, there is an array of crypto exchanges to choose from.

The best platform for you will depend on a multitude of factors. What type of wallet do you use? Do you need a fiat on-ramp? Are you converting from another cryptocurrency?

Over 20 exchanges now list RBTC — “Smart Bitcoin” that’s pegged on a 1:1 basis with the world’s biggest cryptocurrency, opening the door to cutting-edge DeFi protocols.

CEX or DEX: What’s right for you?

If you’re fairly new to the crypto space, it’s worth knowing that there are two types of platforms where you can buy, sell, and swap digital assets.

Centralized exchanges (CEXs) serve as an intermediary — matching those who want to purchase a coin with people looking to sell up.

To open an account, you may need to go through a Know Your Customer (KYC) process.

Alternatively, you can use a decentralized exchange. Known as a DEX for short, these platforms execute trades without a middleman through the use of smart contracts. These platforms tend to have a more decentralized infrastructure and anonymity amongst users.

For beginners, it’s important to find an exchange that offers an intuitive user interface, and step-by-step guides that walk you through the process of buying coins for the first time.

Getting RBTC from exchanges

Let’s have a look at the exchanges where you can get your hands on RBTC.

Fiat to crypto

Mt Pelerin’s centralized platform comes in handy if you’re looking to convert fiat into crypto, as purchases can be made with bank transfers, Visa and Mastercard, as well as Apple Pay.

Beginner-friendly CEXs

If you’d prefer to use a centralized exchange, Buenbit can open the door to Everyday DeFi — and the platform is already helping consumers across Latin America.

LBank is another CEX that connects RBTC with BTC, meaning conversions between both cryptocurrencies can be made quickly.

AgenteBTC is one of the biggest CEXs in Peru and Honduras — and in addition to enabling users to buy and sell RBTC, it allows them to receive crypto payments.

AirSwap supports RBTC, as well as other tokens in the Rootstock ecosytem — and with all-time trading volumes beyond $4 billion, this DEX offers efficient swaps with minimal slippage.

BitPanda is another top CEX that has listed RBTC — and the latest figures from this crypto platform suggest it has more than five million users.

Changelly scours the market for the best deals across centralized exchanges, comparing rates when you’re looking to convert major cryptocurrencies into RBTC.

Criptala, a CEX based in Uruguay, says it offers the easiest way to buy cryptocurrencies — and provides in-depth guides for newcomers through its Academy.

Gate.io offers more than 1,700 cryptocurrencies and stablecoins through its centralized platform, and RBTC is one of them.

The Poloniex CEX says some of its main points of difference include safeguards for digital assets, proof of reserves, and multiple layers of security when you buy and sell crypto.

Ramp Network is specifically geared toward beginners in the crypto space — and helping onboard new users by providing easy-to-understand on-ramps from fiat to digital assets.

SideShift delivers direct-to-wallet trades, and through this platform, you can purchase RBTC using more than 200 types of cryptocurrency.

DEXs and Aggregators

SushiSwap is one of the biggest decentralized exchanges on Ethereum — and offers a DEX aggregator to ensure you get the best prices when swapping from one coin to another.

Jumper is another DEX that’s in operation across multiple blockchains, with support for over 20 networks including Rootstock.

Rubic is a decentralized platform where token swaps take place within a few clicks — with a clear breakdown of how much transactions will cost.

OpenOcean’s DEX doesn’t just offer support for RBTC, but for other digital assets within the Rootstock ecosystem too.

Meanwhile, Symbiosis brings together liquidity from multiple Layer 1 and Layer 2 networks through its intuitive DEX, meaning assets can be moved easily from one chain to another.

Over on to Oku’s decentralized platform, you can select RBTC from the dropdown menu and then be connected with dozens of major crypto pairs.

And last but by no means least, WoodSwap is a fast and secure DEX that’s been built on top of Rootstock — with custom-built tools so digital assets can be bridged from other blockchains.

Rootstock’s goal is to make Bitcoin work for everyone — through an EVM-compatible sidechain that’s secured by the Bitcoin network. RBTC’s presence on a plethora of CEXs and DEXs mean it’s accessible to a broad cross-section of the crypto community, irrespective of the exchanges or wallets they currently use.
